As a member of the Gold Coast Venture Capital Association’s Board of Directors, firm associate Jason LaCosse co-hosted the inaugural GCVCA Expo in Boca Raton on February 26, 2014.  The exposition drew an overflow crowd for networking among startups, venture investors, and service providers.  More than 300 people attended the event, which showcased over twenty South Florida startup companies.

Firm Associate Jason LaCosse Presents CLE to Florida Bar’s Business Law Section

Firm associate Jason LaCosse was invited to present a Continuing Legal Education course to the Business Law Section of the Florida Bar in Orlando on January 22, 2014. The CLE course focused on “Intellectual Property Protection for Software and Apps” and involved a discussion of several software-related cases currently pending before the Federal Circuit and the Supreme Court.

Ruiz has become a Partner with the Firm.  Mr. Ruiz will continue to handle trademark and copyright registration matters, as well as disputes and litigation relating to patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret cases.  Mr. Ruiz has been rated AV Preeminent® by Martindale Hubbell, has been a member of the Florida Bar since 2001, and currently serves as the Vice President of the Federal Bar Association's South Florida Chapter and as a Director of the Rotary Club of Miami.

Team Malloy Wins 4th Annual Patently Impossible Race for Charity

Firm associates W. John Eagan, Chris Traina, and Tony Guo took first prize at the 2013 Patently Impossible Project, a charity race to assemble a mystery invention benefitting Dade Legal Aid. This year’s competition featured a toy car powered by a salt water battery, assembled using only a parts kit and a patent application. The winner’s car was the first to cross the finish line.
