Oliver A. Ruiz Named Firm Partner

As the firm enters 2014, our 55th anniversary year, we are pleased to announce that Oliver A. Ruiz has become a Partner with the Firm.  Mr. Ruiz will continue to handle trademark and copyright registration matters, as well as disputes and litigation relating to patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret cases.  Mr. Ruiz has been rated AV Preeminent® by Martindale Hubbell, has been a member of the Florida Bar since 2001, and currently serves as the Vice President of the Federal Bar Association's South Florida Chapter and as a Director of the Rotary Club of Miami.

Team Malloy Wins 4th Annual Patently Impossible Race for Charity

Firm associates W. John Eagan, Chris Traina, and Tony Guo took first prize at the 2013 Patently Impossible Project, a charity race to assemble a mystery invention benefitting Dade Legal Aid. This year’s competition featured a toy car powered by a salt water battery, assembled using only a parts kit and a patent application. The winner’s car was the first to cross the finish line.   

USPTO Operation Status During Government Shutdown

During the general government shutdown that began October 1, 2013, the United States Patent and Trademark Office will remain open, using prior year reserve funds to operate for approximately four weeks.  Should the reserve funds be exhausted before the general government shutdown ends, the USPTO would shut down at that time, although a very small staff would continue to work to accept new applications and maintain IT infrastructure, among other functions.  Updated information relating to USPTO operations during the government shutdown will be available at http://www.uspto.gov/news/2013ops.jsp.
