Copyrights Entering Public Domain in 2026

by | Jan 5, 2026 | Blog, Internet | 0 comments

Copyrights protect original works of authorship and are a powerful form of intellectual property protection that can last for several decades. Among the works that can be protected by copyright are works of art, books and other writings, photographs, sculptures, computer software, and architectural works, among other types of works.

The copyright for some works will expire in 2026, meaning that those works will be in the public domain, perhaps most notably the literary work The Maltese Falcon, written by Dashiell Hammett and published in 1930. This post on the  U.S. Copyright Office Blog provides more information.

The Firm’s attorneys can provide guidance on copyright issues, including how best to protect your copyright.
