The U.S. Senate recently introduced a bill proposing legislation that would require users of the copyrighted works of others in building generative AI models to promptly file notice with the Copyright Office. Under the proposed legislation, monetary remedies will be available to copyright owners if the users of their works do not promptly file the required notices.

The proposed legislation is called the Clear Act (S. 3813, Copyright Labeling and the Ethical AI Reporting Act). The text of the proposed bill can be found here: Clear Act.
