Just three (3) years after the grant of U.S. Patent No. 10,000,000, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (“USPTO”) on May 11, 2021 issued U.S. Patent No. 11,000,000 for a new method of delivering a heart stent. The USPTO likely issued the actual “eleven millionth” patent some time ago, however, since the current serial numbering system was re-set to Patent No. 1 in the 19th Century after numerous patents were granted since 1790.  A fire at the USPTO in 1836 destroyed many of the earliest patent records, leaving the precise count of issued patents unknown. Additionally, Design and Plant patents follow a separate numbering scheme from Utility patents.

The Firm will join this new era on June 1, 2021 when U.S. Patent No. 11,019,858 is issued as a result of efforts on behalf of one of its clients. On the timescale of patents, the Firm can trace its roots back at least as far as the “three millions” when the Firm’s founder, John Cyril Malloy, Jr., began obtaining patents in the early 1960s. Some notable achievements by the firm in each million-patent interval include:
